Raised Strawberry Bed

We are moving to another house. With me getting up in age, I wanted a raised strawberry garden. My family comes from the farming life. So I called my mother to ask her if she had any old used tires. She said yes.

My husband and I went and got the two used tires. Then we took two of the old used tires there at the place we are moving to. I knew what I wanted to design in my head and it was on its way to being accomplished.

We hauled dirt up and filled the tires. I used a shovel to pack the dirt down inside the tire. We kept hauling dirt until all four tires were packed full.

I asked my husband for two more tires.

He went out and got two more tires. I put these on top of the four tires.

After packing the tires full of dirt, we then planted the strawberries in it.

I had to pick out the paint I wanted to use.

I picked out Rustoleum oil base. I then started to paint the tires. You want to use a light color. Leaving the tires black or dark will cook your plants in the summer. It gets way to hot.

When you paint the tires, it will take two coats. The rubber tires suck in the paint. I also got gloss because this will reflect the sun rays too, to prevent heating the tires.

I painted each tire two coats.

Then it was time for the trim paint.

My butterfly raised strawberry bed was finished. Note to self. Next time paint the tires before you use them. lol
