People always want to know weight loss secrets. Here are mine.
1. You have to want to do it more than anything in your life. Half-ass will be half a diet and half an achievement.
2. Have your ice cream, cookies, etc. Eat one slowly and savor the taste, then walk away for the cookies. If after five minutes you still have the craving eat another and walk away. Ice cream ask for the baby cone or the baby serving. Savor it and say enough. As for the Birthday parties..ask for a tablespoon of ice cream and a very small piece of cake. Savor it and eat slowly. If they give you a large piece cut it in half and leave it. You don't have to starve yourself of sweets. But eat a small portion and walk away.
3. Drink a glass of water before each meal. This fills up your stomach so you eat less. Eat slowly and savor each bite. This will fill you up faster. Take a small servings.
4. Eat low fat dairy. I know the yogurt tastes gross. It doesn't have to. Buy the mio or Hy-Vee water flavorings and add to the yogurt. You have different flavors to chose from. You can add this to your ice cream too. Have a lower calorie strawberry shake or sundae.
5. Drink lots of water. Water will flush out impurities as well as keeping you healthy.
6. If you have negativity in your life from friends and family, make it your goal to prove to them you can do it. You can do it!!!! You have the determination to reach your goal.
7. Take pictures from the first day and when you reach each goal. Look back at these. It will prove to yourself even more what you have accomplished.
8. As you lose weight your clothes size will change drastically. Don't buy high dollar clothes. Buy clothes from discount stores, resale shops, yard sales etc. Buy clothes that will change with you. I bought cotton capris and leggings that will go down as you lose weight. If you have a favorite clothing you love. Don't get rid of it. I kept several and took them in. Believe it or not but this gives you comfort. Comfort that you can still wear those favorite items. I took in 4.5 to 5 inches on each side of my shirts so I could wear them again. This also boosts your confidence of how nice you look in the smaller clothes.
9. Believe in yourself. Be brave and tell others what you went through and your feelings. Even if people snarl at bariatric. No diet is easy. I have found through my journey this helps you and them to know someone else has those feelings and understands what you are going through.
10. You will get depressed. Everyone says you should be happy. But your body goes through so many changes and you have to keep up with it. Voice those feelings and be proud. You are learning as you go forward, and with the loss of weight, and learning about the new you.
11. You want to eat like everyone else when you go out to dinner. That fast food is awesome. For a burger, ask for a wrap instead or order your favorite with no bun. I eat at McDs Burger king and hardee's with no bun. For fries opt cheese stick or onion rings. This gets you away from fries.
12. And above all else believe in yourself. I have faith that you can do it. I know you can. So have faith in yourself and achieve that goal you want to. If anyone needs a sounding board, I am more than glad to help out.
13. Don't ever give up on yourself. If you plateau, don't get disgusted. Your body will only let you lose so much weight before losing again.
I hope this helps someone. If you want to add to this feel free. This is what has helped me. Good luck on your journey and have fun losing that weight to find the new healthy you.
